News Log Number Three

Plaxico Burres has been sentenced to serve a two year prison sentence for possession of firearm.
Burres, who played for The New York Giants as a wide receiver , was in a nightclub last year when his gun that was in his waistband went off and shot him in the leg. Plaxico Burres was taken to the hospital by teammate Antonio Pierce, and when he was admitted into the hospital, the doctor that saw him did not report the gun shot wound at first, which is required by the law. Before the gun incident Plaxico Burres was considered a her because of how well he played. In 2008 Burres caught the game winning touchdown with only 35 seconds left in the game. After that Plaxico's career started to go down hill. He was reported that he missed a practice, which caused him to get suspended, and later, in the same month he was fined 45,000 dollars because he yelled at a referee and through a football into the stand. Plaxico Burres was released from the New York Giants in April.

My respone:
I think that what Plaxico Burres did not only put himself in trouble, but it also put people around him in trouble, such as the doctor who did not report the gun shot wound, Antonio Pierce who brought him to the hospital, and was sought to have chargers brought upon him. I think that if Plaxico Burres does spend some time in jail it might make him realize that even though no one but himself got hurt, it could have been worse and more people could have suffered from his mistake of bringing a gun to a night club.

News Log Number Two

Are religious teen girls more likely to get pregnant then girls who do not practice their religion?

This article talks about teenage pregnancy on the rise. Not only is the article talking about how much teenage pregnancy has risen, then are also talking about which types of teenage girls become pregnant. Researches who have done a study states that they \ teenagers who are religious have higher rate in teen pregnancy, as opposed to teens who are not religious. Why? Because religious teenagers do believe that abortion is wrong, because that’s what their religion tells them. On another note, teenagers who are not religious are less likely to carry to term because since they don’t practice a religion, then believe that abortion is right. The top five states that have the highest teen birth rates are Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, and Arizona. The state that is the most religious? Mississippi. Teenage pregnancy is on the rise, and with more girls being having babies, it just brings up the states birthrate to unbelievable numbers.

I think that this article could have some faults to it. The article doesn’t state that reporter talked to individual religious teens themselves to find out reasons why they carry to full term. These facts could have been based on numbers done in a survey that people took. I also think that this article is somewhat scary because so many young teenage girls are becoming mothers at such a young age. I think that religion might have something to do with it, but I also believe that the non religious girls carry to full term as well.

tour around pascack valley

Walking around the halls at Pascack Valley High School, you won’t just notice the fresh faces of students, the shuffling of feet as students are transferring themselves to class, but you will also discover the different ways to circulate the school, see what events are taking place, as well as having an input on how some classes are being taught. During my trip around Pascack Valley I noticed details that I never actually noticed before, when walking from class to class.

After walking down a wide staircase I entered a hallway full of bright and colorful poster. These poster give information to students about school clubs, sports games, after school activities, and as well as information about abroad trips. As I continued down the long wide hallway, I came face to face with a trophy case, filled with many different types of trophies. The trophies were an assortment of different sports, such as dance team, hockey, basketball, softball, baseball, and football. These trophies represent how well our school excels in sports, and with a trophy case displayed in that hallway, it doesn’t look like an eye sore.

Moving to a different stair case I saw many different students wondering around the hallways. Some students waved and said hi to one another, while others, carelessly paraded around the hallway, jumping, and giving hugs to other people. While in the hallway I noticed teachers standing by the front door, doing work, and making sure students roaming the hall have a pass. Turning the corner I got a whiff of something in the foods room. At first the smell was somewhat delightful, but as soon as i got into the middle of the hallway, the delightful smell, turned into what I thought was a burnt cookie smell. When I peaked into the foods and nutrition room, I noticed that the students had been baking cookies, and my thought about what the smell was wasn’t misleading, it really was burning cookies.

Turning the hallway again I noticed the ceilings at Pascack Valley. While looking at the ceiling I noticed that some of the tiles on the ceiling were missing, and hanging from the open spot in the ceiling was electrical wire. Walking around the hallways I’ve never realized that there are many missing pieces of the ceiling that have electrical wire hanging from them.

Pascack Valley High School, has many different qualities that make it unique, even if you can only tell when the hallways are emptied. Pascack Valley’s building isn’t the only thing that makes the school unique, but it is also the students whose feet are being shuffled on the floor, the teachers guarding the halls, as well as the students who are being taught different subjects, even if it takes them a few times before they stop burning cookies.

News Log Number One

This sports article is about the infamous Michael Vick. For those people haven't been around to hear about what Michael Vick has done, i'll sum it up for you. Michael Vick was found guilty putting dogs in cages, and fitting until they were badly injured, or in the worse case scenario, killed. Michael Vick was in jail for eighteen months for dog fighting. Anyways, in this article, the organization Main Line Animal Rescue decided against negative advertisement towards Michael Vick. Instead they decided to use Michael Vick as a positive advertisement for their foundation. Main Line Animal Rescue stated in the article that " for every time Michael Vick is tackled, he will donate five bags of dog food to a local shelter."

I think that what the Main Line Animal Rescue is doing is a good thing. It is showing that they still don't approve of what Michael Vick did, but they still want him to pay for what he did to those poor dogs, even if it is in the smallest way.
