Two nine years old who were traveling by plane as unaccompanied minors got sent on the wrong plane. The boy was sent to the girl's destination and the girl was sent to the boys destination. When airlines figured out what happened they sent the kids to the appropriate destination free of charge to the families. Delta refunded the families, paid for the new tickets, and gave the family free tickets for future use.
My Response: I think it's kind of funny that they got mixed up but it is also a serious matter as well. The airline should have checked the children's paperwork thoroughly.

A new study shows that people who tan indoor have triple the chance of getting melanoma. This article discuss a new study that was concluded in the start of 2010. This study shows that people who tan in beds frequently have a higher chance of getting melanoma; the deadliest skin cancer. The study shows that the risk increased in people who have been tanning for a long time. People who have been tanning for ten years or logged in more than 100 session in a tanning bed were the ones more likely to get melanoma. The FDA is thinking about whether they should put regulations on tanning. "Given our findings, the age you start indoor tanning may matter less than how much you do it," says the lead author of the study, DeAnn Lazovich.

Response: I'm not really sure what the FDA should do. If they put a ban on tanning until people are eighteen, they are going to go back to tanning as soon as they hit eighteen. People know the risk of tanning and when they go into the bed they know what they are getting into. So people shouldn't really be upset that people are trying to put a regulation on tanning. They are just trying to help people out so they don't develop the deadliest skin disease.

Is
facebook too complicated? This is online article the author states that facebook has become too complicated with their privacy settings. When they launched a new privacy setting in December it was suppose to make the privacy of a user more private. Instead the privacy setting isn't that private. Users information is still easily accessible from people they don't want to see it.

My Response:
I think that it is a good idea that facebook is changing their privacy settings. For some people facebook may be too open for them and not personal enough. It's not that the privacy settings aren't that private; they aren't easy enough to use either. For some people it is becoming a hassle to change their privacy settings.

Reality Star sent to jail.
Reality TV personality Alexis Neiers, from the hit show "Pretty Wild"was sentenced to 180 days in jail Monday for her role in the "bling ring" burglaries of celebrity homes in the Hollywood, California, area. Neiers was sentenced for breaking into actor Orlando Bloom's home and stealing millions of dollars worth of jewelry. Neiers and her friends were caught on surveillance tape when the burglary took place. Her and her friends said that they went on a website that showed where the celebrities lived. Because Neiers had a plea bargain, she escaped six years in prison. She will start her sentence on June 24th.

My Response:
1. It's wrong that someone, especially a "Celebrity" is going into another Celebrities home and stealing goods. It's obviously wrong to do, but when it's someone so famous they should have expected that there would be video cameras recording there every move. On another note I think that it is good that she is getting jail time for a crime she committed. Some celebrities end up getting out of going to jail and only having to do community service, or go on probation.

Is transracial adoption a problem? Some people are starting to think so. Lately what has caused people to think this? Sandra Bullock's news on adopting an African American baby. In this article people have stated that if a child is raised by someone of a difference race, then they will turn out bad or wrong. More than forty percent of adoptions in the United States are transracial. People also think that it is ideal for children to be matched with people of their same race, but other people want to have a child of a different race.

My Response:
I think that it's beautiful that people adopt of a different race. I think that it is very dumb that people have something to say about business that isn't theirs. So some people don't want children of a different race, some do. It could be because they want to have a different background than their children, or they are trying to help a child who isn't in a good situation. I think that if people don't want to adopt a different race; then don't and if people do want to do that; negative people should bud out of other peoples business.

Should your
boss be able to look through your personal messages? If it's messages from a company phone, or company computer; that is the question in this article. On Monday in California the Supreme Court had a case that hasn't really reached a verdict. The question is if a California city violated a public employee's rights by reading sexually explicit text messages on an electronic device owned by the Police Department. The person who sent the text messages is saying that it is an invasion of his personal space.

My Response:
I don't think that it is an invasion of personal space because the person who sent the explicit text messages were using a COMPANY phone. If you are using a company phone you should be aware that what you send could be traced right back to you and your employers could know what you are doing. If you are using a company phone, computer, or anything that belongs to the company that you work for; employers should have the right to check into what their employees are doing.

Your best friend dating your ex, would you be upset? This article talks about the boundaries of friendship when it comes to dating your best friends ex boyfriend. The article says that women over analyze relationships and why they didn't work out; whether it is blaming themselves, or the guy who the relationship didn't work with. The women who wrote the article says that what women should do is question the relationship they have with the other women who wants to date the guy. If they don't have a close relationship, then it's ok. If the two women are really close friends, why would you even go down that road?

My response:
I think that if two women are friendly then it may be ok for one to date the other's ex. If the two women are close, best friends for a while, then why would you cross that road? Dating your best friends ex boyfriend is asking to have trouble down the line. The friend may not say it bothers them, but deep down it will and then tension will be caused, causing a friendship to end.

Open marriages has been talk about frequently on tv, news, and on the internet but what exactly is an OPEN marriage? An open marriage is when a couple decides they want to get married, but they also agree that they can have a partner on the side; without hiding it from their spouse. Celebrity Mo'Nique and her husband are in an open marriage and she thinks that it is great. The good thing about an open marriage? You don't have to lie to your spouse about where you are going or who you are going to be with. Some couples even keep an apartment on the side just for those days out of the week when they are having the "affair" [which is a word I'm using lightly]. In this article the author states that a married person always wants their spouse to be happy, and if that means stepping out of the relationship than so be it; as long as it makes your spouse happy. The problems with an open marriage? How about feeling jealous, angry, hurt, and insecure about what your partner is doing, or even being angry with yourself for agreeing with an open marriage. Some might even feel betrayed. Open marriages have been brought to attention recently but still only one percent of married couples and in an "open marriage"

My Response:
I personally think marriage should be between two people and that's all. If you want to be in an open marriage than that seems to show that the person has an issue with being committed or does not feel strongly for there spouse. I feel that both parties may agree on an open marriage but once one person steps out and has a "date" with another person then the spouse may feel betrayed and might want to consider not having an open marriage anymore. I also think that these feelings apply to both men and women. Some people think that men are the first ones to step out and cheat on their wife, but that is not always true. Women are also capable of stepping out and cheating on their husbands, leaving their husbands to have grief. While it may work for some people it might not work for others. I personally think that if you want an open marriage, maybe you should just not get married;or even in a relationship. Just be single.

Recently in the entertainment news there has been talk about a new actress who doesn't fit the criteria of Hollywood. The actress who stars in the movie Precious, Gabourey Sidibe is the one being targeted by Hollywood critics. Sidibe has been told by people that she doesn't look like she belongs in Hollywood. Howard Stern has called her " the size of a planet" a weight loss supplement company has came to her saying that they would give her a years worth of their product if she will endorse it. Gabourey Sidibe hasn't let it hurt her. When asked how she felt about her weight she said "I learned to love myself, because I sleep with myself every night and I wake up with myself every morning, and if I don't like myself, there's no reason to even live the life,". She goes on to say "I love the way I look. I'm fine with it. And if my body changes, I'll be fine with that."

My Response:
I think that it's wrong for people to criticize her on her weight and tell her that she won't be able to get good roles in Hollywood because of her weight. It's not your size that gets you the good roles, it's the quality of your acting. It's also very good that she is laughing off the comments that people are making and is keeping her head up. I think that she should be a role model for people who have issues with their weight because she shows that you could love yourself at any size you are!

Sports are becoming a "silent epidemic". Dr. Thomas DeBerardino did a study and noticed teenagers that are on multiple sports team tend to have injuries in the knees, neck, and shoulder that are most common in grown adults. One example that Dr. DeBerardino mentioned was baseball. Pitchers could end up racking high pitch counts in each of their various leagues and increase their risk for elbow and shoulder injuries. Every throw consist of using their shoulder and elbow and after a period of throwing and catching players soon start to feel the pain. Athletes that play on more than one team don't have enough breaks and they over use their body. Dr. DeBerardino says that athletes should " listen to your body" and learn when they need to take a break.

My Response:
Sports are an easy was to injure yourself. I was on two different swim teams which caused an over use of my shoulder, causing me to have surgery and go into physical for a while. It also resulted in me having to stop swimming for a couple of months and loosing all the progress I had made. I think that it is good that athletes are trying hard on different teams but they also need to realize when it is time to stop and take a rest.

In Kentucky, plastic surgeon Doctor Andy Moore and his three brothers have kept a
tradition in a hospital that his father started in the 50's. This tradition is called Surgery on Sunday. Surgery on Sunday happens the third Sunday of every month. Dr. Moore, on this day does plastic surgery for people that do not have insurance. The surgery for the patients is
free! In 2005 Dr. Moore finally found a hospital that would let him continue the Surgery on Sunday program that their father started in the 1950's. Since a Kentucky hospital has let him do these surgeries Dr. Moore has 3,100 patients.
Volunteers arrive bright and early the first surgery takes place at 7:30 in the morning. On an average Sunday the volunteers care for 25 to 30 patients. Volunteers include anesthesiologists, nurses, receptionists and other surgeons.

My Response:
I think that people helping people in need is a great idea. Having this Surgery on Sunday seems like it benefits many people. Since this is helping people without insurance it's a great cause. Not only does it seem that the patients are getting what they need, but the surgeons and other volunteers seem to be benefiting from it. How might they be benefitting? They are helping people and feeling better about themselves.

Earth Quake in Chile. As many of us have heard over the long weekend there was an eight point eight magnitude earthquake that hit Chile, and hit it pretty hard. As of now death toll reaches about seven-hundred and thirty people. Seven hundred and thirty people is way too many deaths. Maybe the earthquake couldn't be prevented, but it is still a shame that so many people have to loose their homes, loved ones, and basic necessitates. Six hospitals have be destroyed while another two are left damaged; meaning people can not get the help that they need. While people are still struggling to find loved ones and getting medical attention they need, the Prime Minister says that he blames the Navy for not sounding the alarm for the tsunami that started the whole thing.

My Response:
Like everyone else I think that another earthquake, just soon after the earthquake in Haiti is horrible to hear about. At first when there was in earthquake in Haiti, I heard that the United States was doing so much to help out and at first I didn't think much of it. Then when I started hearing more and more about it on the news, I realized that these people need as much help as people could give. I just hope that people continue their support to the victims of this incident.

People who walk barefoot are more likely to have stronger foot muscles, and great flexibility in the hips and toes. In this article there was a study done on people who walked barefoot to people who did not walk barefoot. People who were walking barefoot had a result which led them to have greater stronger bones in their feet. People who walk barefoot also have more flexibility in certain parts of their body. Research has shown that people who walk barefoot have a greater chance of not having athletes foot. Some people even think that walking barefoot makes them feel closer to nature because they are stepping on the earth with their bare feet as opposed to wearing shoes.

My Reaction:
I love walking barefoot all the time! I don't really notice in myself if I'm more flexible, but I'm sure some people are more flexible. On feeling closer to the earth with no shoes on, I wouldn't say that I personally feel closer to the earth when I am barefoot, but I do like to feel the grass, flowers, and nature on my feet when I'm walking barefoot.

Young boy sentenced to im-patient.

In Arizona, a young boy admitted killing his father, along with another man. The young boy was charged with two counts of homicide, but after plea bargaining the chargers were only one count of negligence homicide. Instead of this ten year old going to a juvenile detention center, he will be attending im-patient. Though there was not much released of what will be happening while the young boy is in im-patient, one thing that will defiantly be going on is psychiatric help. Every two and a half years the boy will have follow up evaluations so the court is updated on his progress.

My Response:
I don't think that this ten year old should be in im-patient. I believe that he should be in a juvenile center. He took two lives violently and shouldn't just be in a psychiatric hospital. Yes he will be getting help, but it is not guaranteed. He could come out of the facility at eighteen years old and commit more murders. I just believe he should be locked up. I don't think he is a danger to himself, just to other people.

The Junior' Gotti case is finally over. In five years, four trials have ended with jurors being hung, and now prosecutors haven given up on charging John A. Gotti Junior on any mob related charges. On Wednesday morning the case was officially closed with the signing of the documents by the assistant U.S Attorney. Last fall Gotti Junior was on trial for two months, but after jurors stepped forward and said that the trial was a deadlock, the case was called off as a mistrial.

My Response:
I think that it is wrong that the charges on Gotti are dropped and that his case was called as a mistrial. He has been accused of wrong doing and should be punished for it.

Pomegranates could be the fruit that is a treatment for breast cancer. Ohio State researchers claim that pomegranates
naturally produces a chemical known as ellagic acid, which helps slow and even prevent the growth of cancer cells in breast tissue. The researchers say that pomegranates have recently been noted for their antioxidants and potential cancer fighting attributes. This is the first study that has been published involving pomegranates. Experts aren't telling people to eat pomegranates instead of taking medicine just yet. But soon experts believe that people will start seeing pomegranates used in breast cancer prevention.

My Response:
I think that it is a good idea that there is research that has gone on that does not have to involve medicine. It's great that people are trying to figure out a cure for a cancer that has ruined the life of many women. If people keep doing research I'm sure they would be able to find a cure for it.
